Quarterfinal previews

May

So the first round wasn’t the most competitive: 22-2, 20-2, 16-4, 19-8, 14-4, 14-5, 15-8, 11-6, 11-7. Average margin of victory: 10.7 goals. And no upsets.

Here’s a look at what the next round has in store. Unfortunately all nine quarterfinal games will be played on Tuesday (eight at 4:30 p.m.), which means I can only [...]

Playoff scoreboard

May
22

Freshman Melina Juliano, who was recently called up from the J.V., had three goals and two assists as Putnam Valley defeated North Salem 11-6.

It was the first playoff win for the two-year-old program, and the third time that No. 8 Putnam Valley beat No. 9 North Salem this season. Interestingly enough, North Salem — also [...]

Section 1 playoff times

May
22

Here’s today’s playoff schedule. If anyone has any thoughts or predictions, don’t keep them to yourself. I’ll start—I think there will be an upset tomorrow, and I’m looking at Harrison over Albertus. North Salem-Put Valley has turned into a great rivalry in just two years, but just like NS won three times last year, I [...]

Sad news from Ossining

May
22

Ossining is about to play in the biggest game the program has ever had. And its only head coach won’t be allowed on the sideline.

Chad Schindler, who is on family leave from his job as a middle school P.E. teacher in the Ossining school district, was told yesterday by the administration that he can not [...]

Tuesday roundup

May
20

Racquel Lividini of Mamaroneck (top right) scored her 200th varsity point in Mamaroneck’s 10-6 win over Tappan Zee. Official seeds

May
20

There were two changes from my projected seedings. Clarkstown North declined its opportunity to be the No. 5 seed in Class A, which moved Arlington up (and gave North Rockland a bye to the semifinals). And Hastings actually won a coin flip against Sleepy Hollow that decided the No. 14/No. 15 seed.

Anyone from North want [...]

Final seeding projection

May
20

Here’s my final seeding projection. The meeting is tonight at 7 at Greeley, and I will be back as soon as I can with the real thing.

Assuming that all the records I have are accurate, there will be six teams in A, nine teams in B and 17 in C. Which means Nanuet must play [...]

Suffern, Lakeland/Panas tie

May
17

This is the report from Jake Thomases:

Suffern was looking for a stranglehold on Section 1 supremacy at Panas today. Lakeland/Panas was looking for a season split with Suffern. And three players were looking for scoring milestones.

No one got what they wanted.

The teams ended their game, a potential Class A championship preview, in a 6-6 tie. [...]

NYSAIS tournament schedule

May
15

Today’s girls lacrosse notebook looked at Hackley, which is set to win another NYSAIS championship after being knocked out by Rye Country Day last year.

Well, the tournament schedule was announced tonight. If Hackley is to win for the fourth time in five years, it will need to do it as the No. 3 seed.

Play-in, [...]

Big day at Jay Fest

May
11

It was a very interesting day at John Jay Saturday, where the girls team celebrated “Jay Fest” by hosting Horace Greeley.

The newly-ranked Quakers solidified themselves as the top challenger to Yorktown in Class B, winning the game 16-12. Courtney Miller, who collected the MVP award from the Jay booster club, scored eight times and [...]

Amanda Lambert (below), a second-team all-county defender last season who was moved to the midfield last week, entered last night with two varsity goals. She matched that total in the first half against Yorktown, and then added three more in the second half as the Mounties beat the Cornhuskers 19-10.

Behind 6-5 at halftime, Suffern put [...]
