After a dominant showing from all three of Section 1’s teams in regional play, the area is going to be well-represented up at SUNY Cortland on Friday morning in the state championships. Section 5 won out in all three classes, setting the stage for the semifinals.
Below is the schedule for the semifinals, along with a quick scouting report on what to expect from each team.
Schedule for 6/5
At SUNY Cortland
Class C: Bronxville vs. Honeoye (Section 5), 9:30 a.m.
Honeoye’s 12-8 record may not be impressive, but that was more a reflection of a difficult schedule loaded with Class A and B schools. Against fellow Class C schools, the Cougars were 4-1. Key players to watch for include midfielder Kayla O’Connell (Canisius) and a pair of sophomores, attacker Caitlin Muir (Michigan) and midfielder Brittany Chamberlain (Florida).
Class A: Suffern vs. Pittsford (Section 5), noon
After starting the season 1-2 (with one of those losses coming to top-ranked West Genesee), Pittsford is currently on a 17-game winning streak. College commitments on the roster include defender Emily Wilson (Virginia Tech), midfielder/attacker Allie Panara (Ithaca) and midfielder Monica Sanna (Le Moyne).
Class B: Somers vs. Victor (Section 5), 2:30 p.m.
Ranked ninth in the NYSSWA rankings (Somers is sixth), Victor suffered only one loss by more than one goal this season (a 13-6 romp by West Genesee). Victor has a loaded senior class with six players committed to D-I schools.
