The Final Four is set for the Division I, II and III tournaments, and four teams that feature locals still remain.
Lauren Murray, a 2012 John Jay graduate, had two draw controls in No. 5 Northwestern’s 12-11 overtime win against No. 4 Florida to advance to the Division I semifinals. It’s the 10th-straight trip the Wildcats are making to championship weekend, which is being held in Towson, Md. Northwestern will face No. 1 Maryland Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN3.
Casey Bocklet, a 2011 John Jay graduate, led No. 6 Virginia with two goals and three assists in the Cavaliers’ 10-9 win over No. 3 North Carolina, the reigning national champions. It’s the first time Virginia has reached the Final Four since 2007. The Cavaliers will face No. 2 Syracuse Friday at 5:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN3.
Tara Monaghan, a 2012 North Rockland graduate, and Kristen Ohberg, a 2013 Brewster graduate, each tallied five points in 16-7 win over Colby to reach the Division III semifinals for the fourth-straight season. With the win, the Red Dragons improve to 22-0, a school record. Cortland will face Trinity Saturday at 1 p.m., in Gettysburg, Pa. Alexandra Fritz (Byram Hills) and Kerry Bretti (Fox Lane) also play on Cortland.
Amherst, who defeated TCNJ 8-5 to reach the Final Four, also features a local in 2012 Rye Country Day graduate Meghan McDonough. The Lord Jeffs will play Salisbury Saturday at 4 p.m.
The NCAA Division I national championship game is Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and will air on ESPNU. The Division III title game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
