Here is Mike Zacchio’s story on Westlake’s win over Blind Brook.
The Westlake and Blind Brook girls lacrosse teams both put on an offensive show Thursday, but it was the Wildcats who walked away with a 17-13 victory.
While neither team had a problem finding the net, each had its own method of doing so.
For the visiting Trojans, it was simple — give the ball to Mackenzie Korpi or Courtney Shaw. The duo scored all of Blind Brook’s goals, with Korpi, a sophomore, finding the net seven times. Korpi assisted Shaw three times, while the junior returned the favor twice.
The Wildcats had a different strategy — score from all angles.
Westlake had eight different scorers, including senior Stephanie Mele, who had four goals and two assists. Fellow senior Monica D’Ippolito added a hat trick and four assists for the Wildcats.
Madison Warne, Christina Leva, Lauren Holzer and Tori Oswald also scored multiple times. Warne and Leva added four and three assists, respectively.
Westlake senior goaltender Nikki Thomas and Blind Brook freshman Emily Wexler each made eight saves.
The win snapped a three-game skid for the Wildcats, who had been outscored 40-19 during the slump. The team also set a season high for goals.
