This might be a bit of old news for some of you, but it’s worth noting with traffic on the blog now picking up.
Virginia’s Casey Bocklet, a John Jay graduate, and UConn’s Lauren Kahn (picture above), a Nanuet graduate, were both named to the Tewaaraton Award’s watch list. The annual award is given to the top male and female college player and is the sport’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.
Bocklet, a junior attacker for the No. 6 Cavaliers, was a third-team All-American honoree last season. The 2011 John Jay graduate originally played at Northwestern as a freshman, where she won a national championship, before transferring to Virginia prior to last season. This season, Bocklet has 12 goals and three assists through six games.
Kahn, a senior midfielder for the Huskies, was a second-team All-American pick last season and named the Big East Midfielder of the Year. Kahn literally does it all for UConn. Through six games this season, the 2010 Nanuet graduate leads the Huskies in goals (13), assists (10), points (23), draw controls (19), ground balls (15) and caused turnovers (17).
