Five members of Suffern’s talented junior class have committed to Division I schools.
Caitlin Leary (University of Connecticut), Baley Parrott (Ohio State), Regina Sharp (Rutgers), Dana Gisonno (Rutgers) and Tonianne Magnelli (Boston University) have all made verbal commitments over the past few months.
Leary, a 2013 all-American, posted 65 goals and 11 assists last season for the Mounties. The attacker will join a Huskies team that’s no stranger to Section 1 talent. Nanuet graduate Lauren Kahn, a senior midfielder, was named the Big East midfielder of the year last season. Sophomore Alexa Bonnes (Lakeland) and freshman Molly O’Reilly (John Jay) also play at UConn.
Fellow all-American Parrott is headed west to Ohio State. The midfielder led Suffern in points last season, posting a balanced 47 goals and 39 assists. Yorktown senior Emalee Mongno is already committed to the Buckeyes. Fellow Husker Katie Frederick is a sophomore goalie on the team. Ohio State coach Alexis Venechanos is a Yorktown graduate.
All-section honorees’ Sharp and Gisonno are headed New Brunswick, N.J., together. Sharp had 49 points (36 goals, 13 assists) last season from the midfield. Gisonno had a strong season from the attack. The pair will follow, most recently, in the footsteps of Yorktown’s Amanda Trendell, who is a redshirt senior with the Scarlet Knights.
It wasn’t just the offense, though. Magnelli, one of the Mounties top lockdown defenders last season, is headed to Beantown to join the nine-time American East champions.
The five commitments come in addition to senior Danielle Dgheim, who is already committed to play at American University.
The Mounties return their entire team after making it to the Class A state semifinals before falling to Baldwinsville 9-8.
