I had a decent showing last week, going 3-2 in my first set of “Game of the week” predictions. With so many teams still settling in and getting adjusted, I’ll happily take a #GOTW above .500.
Which brings us to this week. For those of you new to the blog, I choose five games from the upcoming week and pick the winner along with a score. There was a nice mix of match ups to choose from. Should be in for a solid week of girls lacrosse.
Am I spot on or completely off with my picks? Let me know. Drop me a tweet @LoHud_DeFran with your thoughts. Don’t forget to hash tag it #GOTW. If you have a suggestion for a game you’d like me to predict for next week let me know.
Now to the games…
John Jay at Somers, 4:30 p.m.
Pick: John Jay, 14-12. As I said in today’s schedule, both teams are coming off nice wins from the weekend. Both teams also have a similar result against Yorktown (John Jay lost by one, Somers lost by three). I’m going to give the slight edge to the Indians in what should be a great game.
Yorktown at Fox Lane, 6 p.m.
Pick: Yorktown, 12-8. These two teams enter the game on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Huskers have been hot since their season-opening loss to a talented Ward Melville. The Foxes have lost two-straight games, something they haven’t done since 2010. I think Yorktown keeps rolling.
Brewster at Pearl River, 4:30 p.m.
Pick: Brewster, 8-6. The Bears suffered a heartbreaking loss Saturday at North Rockland. This time I think they leave Rockland County with a win.
Lakeland/Panas at John Jay, 4:30 p.m.
Pick: Lakeland/Panas, 13-10. It’s hard to pick against this Rebels’ team. They might be young and inexperienced, but they are certainly talented.
North Rockland at Nyack, 3 p.m.
Pick: North Rockland, 9-7. The Indians played the Red Raiders to a one-goal game early last year. The two teams have certainly changed in 12 months. I give North Rockland a slight advantage.
