The season is still in its infancy stages, but the two games scheduled today are certainly interesting.
First up Yorktown welcomes Section 11’s Ward Melville to Charlie Murphy Field. The Patriots went 17-2 last season and made it to the Class A sectional finals where they fell to state-finalist Bay Shore. The Huskers will have their hands full, as Ward Melville once again has no shortage of talent.
Midfielders Alexandra Tilley, who is committed to Connecticut, and Erin Cunningham, who is headed to Jacksonville, are two of the seven seniors on the team committed to Division I schools.
Fellow future Huskie Kelsey Catalano and Shea McAvoy, a Hofstra commit, make up a strong junior class as well.
Not to say the Huskers don’t have talent of their own. Junior midfielder Emalee Mongno is already committed to Ohio State. Seniors Gaby Berne and Amanda Makar are committed to Ithaca and Keene, respectively. Berne, an attacker, and Makar, a defender, will provided much needed senior leadership to a young Yorktown squad.
Later in the day, Mahopac will take a trip up to Dutchess to take on Arlington. The Indians will be led by seniors Gabby Anderson and Sam Karner. Karner, who is committed to Binghamton, led the Indians in scoring last year with 53 goals and 25 assists. Anderson has been the starting goalie for Mahopac since her freshman year.
I’ll retweet any updates I have from the game @LoHud_DeFran. As always, check back here later for the roundups.
