Good news for Yorktown

Yorktown’s chances of winning just got a lot better. Canandaigua star Abbey Friend, a junior who verbally committed to Johns Hopkins North Carolina, is not on the roster and the rumor from my colleague in Rochester is that she quit the team. I think that makes this a 50/50 game, so stay tuned for updates (I’ll make them the comments section below this post).
Right now everything is on schedule so I expect the game to start at 2:30 p.m.
Here’s the Class C scoreboard:
Honeoye Falls-Lima 18, Nyack 6
Shoreham-Wading River 21, Carthage 11

Doing some research, it looks like Abbey Friend signed on to play for Team Canada in the FIL World Cup in Prague. The tournament starts on 6/18 – so my guess is Abbey Friend is most likely in Prague right now practicing with the Canadian team….
Town girls, you are second to none, play ur best and you will bring it home!!!!
Class A scores:
Guilderland 13, Fairport 9
Farmingdale 10, West Genesee 9, OT
Fairport went up 2-0, but Danielle Tetreault (seven goals) scored four straight and Guilderland didn’t look back. It eventually extended the lead to 13-5 with five minutes left.
West Genesee, the two-time defending champs, tied the game on a free position with one second left in regulation, but Farmingdale scored early in the first overtime, and then held the ball for the entire second overtime.
Interested,
That’s the word I’m hearing as well. The coach wasn’t talking this week, but hopefully we’ll find out for sure after the game
Yortkown jumps out to a 2-0 lead with goals 20 seconds apart. Lindsay Scott in transition, and then Brittney Mabus found Jaimie Morrison cutting to goal. 23:27 left
Canandaigua ties it at 2-2 with 19:49 left. Amanda Trendell is out for another 30 seconds with a yellow card.
Yorktown is up 4-2 with 13:40 left. Lindsay Scott now has three goals and is all over the field getting ground balls.
Harold,
I follow both the girls and boys lax blogs, but rarely post comments. I have to say this post by you left a very bad taste with me, because IMHO (a) its extremely crass/tacky and reflects poorly on Section 1 to pass on a rumor (with no facts or confirmation whatsoever) of an opposing team’s player having “quit the team”, then spinning it as “Good News for Yorktown”, and (b) if it is true that the player involved is in fact unable to play, you have succeeded in diminishing in advance the value of a Section 1 team’s possible outstanding achievement. While further information appears to be coming out of the woodwork on this, for all you knew, the player could have suffered a personal tragedy of some kind – shameful for a reporter – you can do better.
Everyone knows she’s playing for Canada, not a rumor. It is good news for Yorktown, she’s their best player. He didn’t say Yorktown didn’t have a chance with her but now their chances are better. Leave Harold alone
Garden City leads 4-0 in the other semifinal
Canandaigua has its first lead, 5-4 with 6:41 left. Taylor D’Amore (the other Hopkins recruit) scored on a free position to put the Braves ahead. Yorktown just called time out.
Tied again at 5-5. Instead of shooting, Scott passed to Morrison off a free position.
fan – go root for your team. Harold should confirm facts and not pass on rumors. I repeat: crass/tacky.

Everyone who follows lacrosse knows that Freind plays for Canada and that is the reason she is not playing….Harold would not report carelessly on this tye of information if it was not appropriate…....Abbey made a very poor decision here…...not sure who consulted with her…You don’t abandon a team…she has many other years to play for Canada when she gets to college and therefore would avoid this tpe of conflict….
GO TOWN – YOU GIRLS CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! WE’RE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU
THSI IS YOUR TIME!!!
Interested sure does some indepth researching…what a sleuth!......GO HUSKERS
Yorktown leads 6-5 at halftime. Garden City leads Watertown 9-1 in the other semifinal. I created a new post so check that for second-half updates.
