Brand new leagues

Hi everyone and welcome to a brand new girls lacrosse season. You’ll notice a lot of changes this year both on the field — completely new leagues and a lot of new faces — and on LoHud. If you’ve followed the fall or winter sports, you’ll notice that we’re taking advantage of new technologies to bring you high school sports, with live video broadcasts and the weekly show Varsity Central Live (click on lohud.com/vcsports4 or lohud.com/vclive for examples).
The newspaper preview won’t come out until the end of next week, but before then I hope to preview the top teams in all three classes, and give you all the information you need as we get ready. In the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts for who will be the best teams and players in each class. I’ll do my best to post each day from now on, but the point of the blogs is for two-way conversations, so don’t be shy.
For starters, here are the new league alignments. As you can see, the divisions are separated by power, like in the past. But this time the leagues are grouped by geography. It’s a preview of what will take place across all sports (except football) next year, when geography will be the sole criteria. So what does everyone think? Will this be better or worse than the previous alignment?
Division One
League I: Suffern, North Rockland, Nanuet, Pearl River, Nyack
League II: Yorktown, Lakeland/Panas, Mahopac, John Jay, Brewster
League III: Greeley, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye, Mamaroneck
Division Two
League I: Tappan Zee, Clarkstown North, Albertus Magnus, Clarkstown South
League II: Fox Lane, Putnam Valley, Somers, North Salem, Ossining
League III: Edgemont, Harrison, Pelham, Pleasantville, Byram Hills
Division Three
League I: Arlington, Hen Hud, Briarcliff, Kennedy, Wappingers
League II: Sleepy Hollow, Hastings, Ardsley, Irvington, Eastchester
League III: White Plains, New Rochelle, Ursuline, Keio, Blind Brook
Note: Each team will play league opponents twice and get crossovers with the teams listed in the same position. For instance, Suffern will play North Rockland, Nanuet, Pearl River and Nyack twice, and crossover with Yorktown and Greeley once, for 10 league games.

Division 1 – league games
Nanuet 7-1
Nyack 5-3
NRockland 4-4
Pearl River 2-6
Suffern 2-6
Yorktown 8-0
Lakeland 6-2
John Jay 4-4
Mahopac 2-6
Brewster 0-8
Class A:
1. ****(4 stars) Lakeland/Panas
2. *** North Rockland
3. ** Mahopac
4. * Suffern
Class B
1. ***(5 stars)Yorktown
2. ** John Jay
3. * Scarsdale
4. * Mamaroneck
5. 1/2* Greeley
6. Brewster (too low to give a star)
Class C
1. ****(4 stars)Nanuet
2. ** Nyack
3. * Pearl River
4. * Rye
There will be alot of great competition and decent amount of parity within the divisions…..alot more than many of the pundits are predicting….Yorktown should be best in class….Nanuet will be good but will definitely lose some games…..Brewster will surprise….Suffern has enough depth lost alot of super stars but they could garnish more wins and will probably peak during section play…North Rockland, Mahopac and Lakeland have seasoned skilled goalies who will be difference makers…..should be a fun season…..
Have to agree with laxfanatic, I think Brewster will surprise this year.
Division 1 League III: Greeley, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye, Mamaroneck
is by far the weakest of the 3 divisions.
So its possible for one of these weak teams to have a higher winning percentage and a higher seed than teams in League I or II who have much much tougher schedules.
This will be very controversial at playoff time.
Any team that doesn’t play Yorktown, Lakeland, or Suffern twice in a season should not have a higher seed than teams that do.
For example – John Jay must play both Yorktoen and Lakeland twice for a total of 4 games. There will be teams in league III than do not play Yorktown or Lakeland at all in the entire regular season.
Most unfair.
