Girls lacrosse in the Lower Hudson Valley

NCAA tournament game with lots of locals

May
11

Hackley graduate Morgan Lathrop, Yorktown graduate Katrina Dowd and the rest of the Northwestern Wildcats start their quest for a fourth straight NCAA title today against Notre Dame.

Lathrop, a Briarcliff resident, is 17-1 with a 6.61 goals-against average, while Dowd entered the game fourth on the team in goals (33) and points (37).

Notre Dame features starting goalie Erin Goodman, a Lakeland gradaute. Goodman has started all 18 games, going 12-6 with a 10.50 GAA and a 46.8 save percentage. The Fighting Irish also have attacker Julie Foote, a Suffern graduate, who has appeared in nine games this year.

By my count, there are four other locals in the NCAA tournament today, and at least one has a major role. New Hampshire defenseman Kelli LaPerch, a Brewster graduate, has started all 18 games on defense, recording 23 ground balls. The other locals are Suffern gradaute Carolyn Gioia, an attacker at Vanderbilt, Panas graduate Katie Rogers, a defender at Princeton, and White Plains graduate Sarah Kellogg, an attacker at Colgate.

Good luck to everyone today, and throughout the tournament (unless you play Duke, in which case I hope you lose).
