Suffern explodes against Yorktown

May
10

Amanda Lambert (below), a second-team all-county defender last season who was moved to the midfield last week, entered last night with two varsity goals. She matched that total in the first half against Yorktown, and then added three more in the second half as the Mounties beat the Cornhuskers 19-10.

Behind 6-5 at halftime, Suffern put on quite a show in the second half, opening with a 10-1 run and finishing with 14 goals. This is the fourth time Suffern has scored at least 19 this season.

Lambert fit right in with the rest of Suffern’s explosive offense. Ali (below right) and Jessi Steinberg had a lot to smile about—they celebrated their 18th birthday with Ali getting six goals and two assists, and Jessi having three goals and three assists. Lara Kozin and Ali Mandel also scored twice, while Jaimie Morrison had three goals and two assists for Yorktown.

I’m off to celebrate my own birthday tonight, so I’ll come back tomorrow with some thoughts on the rest of the games. In the meantime, here’s the video highlights of the game courtesy of Peter Carr, and here’s the link to my story.

Happy Birthday, Harold. The first half of the Suffern/Yorktown game was great, it looked like it was going to be a nail biter. Then the Suffern girls poured it on and really played well. Yorktown played well but Suffern was the better team. By the way, it was nice of the Suffern coach to allow his bench into the game…at about 18-8. I am sure they appreciated the gesture. It certainly did not go unnoticed by all in attendace.

One a higher note, Jaimie Morrison of Yorktown scored her 100th goal tonight. Great job!

  3. YEAH

alllax- (one a higher note) guess u meant ON a higher note- what could be higher then a team and coach having CLASS>................

Hey allLax…I was at that game too. I think I heard you yelling from the stands about putting the bench in late. From reading your posts I just figured you for an anonymous basement blogger, not a guy who will yell to an opposing coach 50 yards away from the friendly confines of the visitors section in a crowded grandstand. You’ve proved me wrong buddy. As for pouring it on…Suffern cleared the bench with 5 minutes left which seems acceptable to me. The Yorkies were still triple teaming and charging to goal, so I guess the game wasn’t over yet. As far as running it up a bit…you might have a point, but check your history between these 2 teams and you’ll find that going both ways. Maybe that was some payback for the last time from the always respectful Staff/Parents of the Yorktown Machine. Don’t feel too bad…with the way SHS is playing and the joke that was last season’s sportmanship filled game at Lakeland (when L/P scored on an iso with a few seconds to go up 10 already) I’d have to figure that what happened to Yorktown last night will pale in comparison to the what the Mountie gals want/plan to do to L/P. Make sure you surface from the basement and get to that game-with your wi/fi laptop! -The Voice

    ...interesting post

    a) admit you probably ran up the score (in some irrational defense of being sportsmanlike ???)

    b) admit you are planning to do it again in a future game against another team

    c) the rational for running up the score – some OTHER team in the section did it to you last year so you can do it to any team you please (the payback defense)

    d) admit the suffern subs are so poor they probably cant hold a 9 goal lead with 8 minutes to go (good luck next year)

    e) sign your name and address which makes it so easy to add to postal junk mail and phone marketing lists (not to mention identity fraud)

If your name and address are real and you work in any official capacity for the team then you probably should be investigated by the section.

what happened to the nanuet edgemont game..it wasnt in the paper and still isnt on line

Hey section1fan…thanks for the post. I’ve answered all your questions. You have a basement too?

    a) I didn’t run up anything…left my stick and pony tail at home. I’m not so sure the score was run up anyway…how many goals has L/P scored in the last few games??? 19 isn’t too bad when you realize there was only a 9 goal differential.

    b) I’m not planning on dusting off my stick or pony tail for the next game either, so that’s a NO on your future prognostication. Maybe you should check with the Suffern staff and see what they have planned?

    c) Payback? From following the sport, there’s no love lost against any of those 3.5 teams (I’m throwing in the .5 for Panas baby—never forget!!) You take liberties on a team one year, you better believe people remember that. I’m sure there are several bully’s who knocked you around in elem/middle/high school and college who you would like to have a well armed word with now that you’re all grown up!

d)Ah…I’d imagine the “subs” have to be pretty good to push the “starters” in practice every day. Were you at the game? See I was and I saw several suffern gals subbing on/off the field. As for next year? I got to the game early and watched the suffern JV smoke Yorktown. Asked around and they have whupped up on EVERY team in the “power” league, including LP and Yorkietown. I’d say that doesn’t bode well for some schools for the next 3-4 years. There’s always girls golf to route for though!

    e) If I get 1 shred of junk mail or a hit on my credit score I’m reporting your IP address to the FBI Bucco!

I’m legit my friend…you should come buy and have a beverage sometime. Hell, maybe even donate some blood in a time of crisis if you’re compatible? You can save the call to the Perry Mason and the investigatve branch of Section 1 girls LAX. I don’t work for any high school team-gotta a real job. Kyle Busch-Director of Security: Indian Point

kyle – if thats your real name. I also work for entergy. You could lose your job for posting your ss # on a blog especially if you really work for security. Will call you on monday – advise you to stop posting.

    Voice,
1.Sorry but it was not me you heard at the game – first of all – I am female. I did however sit in quiet support the of both Ytown and Suffern parents as they called to put the Suffern bench in the game. Oh – did you not hear your own parents’ call to your coach?
2.I advocate for the athletes and the growth of the game, not coaches who may think that winning BIG is so much better than winning.
3.Playing to the whistle is a good philosophy – hey you never know what can happen with just a few seconds left on the clock – right?
4.I complemented the Suffern players on their play and the game in my blog of 12am (ashamed to admit I was blogging at midnight). The attack on the girls was really not warranted and you should be ashamed. I pointed out one negative comment regarding what I believe was a poor coaching decision.
6.Lastly – thanks for the Mother’s Day wishes. That was you right? The MOTHER vibes you were sending to me came through my computer loud and clear. Have a great day – BUDDY.

Not sure what “Attack” on what girls I should be “ashamed” of you big bad blogging momma! Just answering your ridiculous points in good old fashioned, republican non PC English. So that was someone else expressing their Freedom of Speech and yelling at the game while you sat back and contemplated your 12 AM blog posting? If it was such an egregious faux paus perpetrated by that little suffern coach then why didn’t you and your ilk storm the field and shut the game down Sharpton-style? No Substitutes, No PEACE!

How many coaching decisions, poor or otherwise have you ever made? It takes a big person (or momma on momma’s day) to anonymously criticize a coach on a blog when they didn’t even have the gumption to utter one syllable during the incident itself. And don’t go getting all high and mighty on me…you wanted to say something, just lacked the moxy to do it when you would be IDed! Anyone can be a Hollywood tough guy behind a key board.

I love it how adults with jobs have so much time to worry about these dumb blogs, and attempt to live vicariously through the ability of their kids or kids that they are connected with in some manner or another. Like anything said here means anything anyway.

    Well said!

  15. Keep Smiling, Keep shining

There’s a lot of misdirected hostility on this page.
Pick your cliche; mom held you too much or too little, last picked at kickball, first out in dodgeball, whatever. Some of you are so angry that great games actually cause you mental anguish, give you migranes. Enjoyment of the game for you hurts. Prescription: ActiveOn

    Sincerely,

  16. I'm smiling

I love it when people criticize others for having opinions.

Its so easy to be so condescending isn’t it as you judge others from your mountaintop. (Which cliche will I now be grouped with because I expressed an opinion?)

(By the way – the head of security at a nuclear power plant going on a rant and giving his social security number. What is this – an episode of the Simpsons ? If that guy is real he should be reported to the NRC.)

Seriously, I’m 18 years old and a senior in high school and I’m laughing at you adults on these blogs.

  19. player2

just to clear it up, are you talking about the 1st time we beat you or the 2nd?

As an official…it disgusts me that you adults are destroying such a graceful game. If you have all this extra time on your hands might I suggest becoming certified to officiate games so that our staffing issues can be rectified. By issues I mean using men with basketball and football backgrounds who have no idea the grace and beauty that a sport like Girls Lacrosse entails. NO TOUCHING!!! Some of these men call a game like it is studio wrestling!

I hope you parents are proud of yourselves as it appears some “players” have been brought into this useless discussion! Hopefully no members of either team will use their cross as a deadly weapon and retaliate. I long for the good old days of the wooden stick and non athletes running around!
