Seeding projections

The seeding meeting is two weeks from today, so here is a first look at the playoff projections. This is based on games reported to us by 4 p.m. today. If anything doesn’t look right, please let me know.
Teams in Leagues 1-A and 1-B automatically qualify. Teams in Leagues II-A and II-B must have a winning percentage of 40—either in league OR overall games. Teams in Leagues III-A and III-B must have a winning percentage of 50, league OR overall.
Teams in each league are seeded ahead of the league below it. Within each league, teams are seeded by league record, with head-to-head acting as a tiebreaker.
So here we go. League records are in parenthesis. Teams that are currently on the outside I put in italics. Keep in mind that if one of them actually qualifies, then it moves everyone below it down one seed.
Class A
League I-A
1. Suffern (7-0)
2. Lakeland/Panas (4-2)
3. North Rockland (3-4)
4. Mahopac (2-5)
League II-A
5. Clarkstown North (2-4-2)
League II-B
(White Plains 0-5-1, 2-5-1 overall)
(New Rochelle 0-5-2, 1-6-3 overall)
League III-A
6. Arlington (2-1, 6-1 overall)
Thoughts: Mahopac has already beaten North Rockland once head-to-head, so it can easily move to the third seed if it wins the rematch. … Even if L/P beats Suffern in their rematch, the Rebels loss to the Cornhuskers may have cost it the top seed. Still, with no home-field advantage in the final, it really doesn’t matter. … Clarkstown North needs some more wins to qualify, but I left them in for now, since it has games left against the bottom three teams, Albertus, Clarkstown South and Byram Hills.
Class B
League I-A
1. Yorktown (6-2)
2. Horace Greeley (2-5-1)
3. John Jay (0-6-1)
League I-B
4/5. Scarsdale (5-3-1) or Mamaroneck (4-3-1)
6. Tappan Zee (0-9-1)
League II-A
7. Brewster (7-0-1)
8. Fox Lane (6-1-1)
(Clarkstown South 1-6)
League III-A
9. Ossining (5-1)
(Ursuline 0-4, 1-6 overall)
Thoughts: John Jay needs to beat Greeley, and then knock off either Mahopac or North Rockland to have a chance at the No. 2 seed, and home-field in a possible semifinal. … That said, it might be better to just be the No. 3 seed, which means playing Tappan Zee in the quarters instead of Brewster. … Yorktown clinches the No. 1 seed with one more league win. … Scarsdale already beat Mamaroneck 15-14. They meet again next Wednesday in a game that could decide the No. 4 seed, which is big because it determines home-field in the quarterfinals. … Brewster went 1-0-1 against Fox Lane. As long as it loses just one of its last four league games, it retains the No. 7 seed and avoids Yorktown.
Class C
League I-B
1. Nanuet (8-0)
2/3. Pearl River (4-2-2) or Nyack (5-4)
4. Rye (3-4-2)
5. Edgemont (2-6)
League II-A
6. Bronxville (5-2)
(Albertus Magnus 2-5-1)
(Byram Hills 1-6, but 3-7 overall)
League II-B
7. Putnam Valley (6-0-1)
8. North Salem (4-1)
9. Harrison (6-2)
10. Pelham (3-4, 4-4 overall)
(Somers 2-3-2, 3-6-2 overall)
League III-A
11. Pleasantville (4-1)
(Hen Hud 2-3)
(Kennedy 0-3, 3-4 overall)
League III-B
12/13. Sleepy Hollow (3-0-1) or Briarcliff (3-0-2)
14. Hastings (3-1-1)
15. Ardsley (2-2)
(Irvington 1-5, 1-8 overall)
(Keio 0-4, 0-8 overall)
Thoughts: Wins are worth two points and ties are worth one, so Nyack and Pearl River are technically tied right now, though PR has played one less game. They play twice in five days (May 10 and May 14), so that should decide it. … Rye still isn’t out of the No. 2 spot either, assuming it wins its next two against Edgemont and Tappan Zee. … North Salem and Put Valley still have a rematch, and Harrison plays both teams again, so 7-9 is still up for grabs … Pelham should win at least three (WP, NR, Pleasantville and Somers are coming up), which is all it needs. … Despite a tie against PV and a decent record, Somers’ schedule coming up is very difficult (NS twice, PV, Pelham), so I’m leaving it out for now. … Hen Hud must win three of its final five league games, so it must pull an upset against Arlington, Pleasantville or Ossining. Right now I’m leaving it out. … With two games left against Arlington, there isn’t much room for error for Kennedy to get to .500. It’s out for now. … Sleepy Hollow beat Hastings, while Briarcliff tied Hastings and Sleepy Hollow, so that’s the difference so far. Teams all meet again in the next two weeks. … Ardsley needs to beat either Hastings, Sleepy Hollow or Briarcliff at least once to qualify.

Harold,
Can you give us a run down on firm dates for the state quarters, semis, finals? My apologies if this has already been covered in earlier blog posts.
Much appreciated.
Section 1 tournament
First round 5/22
Quarters 5/27
Semis 5/29
Finals at Tappan Zee 5/31
State tournament
Regional semis 6/4 at Section 2
Regional finals 6/8 at Section 9
State semis 6/13 at SUNY Cortland
State finals 6/14 at SUNY Cortland
I know in the overall scheme of things, this is not an earth shattering contribution, but Tappan Zee has one win (against Albertus) not a tie.
And since I am here, for all you coaches out there that lose sight of the fact that these are high schoolers that you are coaching, take a look at TZ Coach Laura Swart. She is young in age and experience, yet has an understanding of the game and the girls that go way beyond her years. Historically, TZ has been pretty good in girls lax, but due to heavy graduation losses and another tough league assignment, the Dutchies are having a challenging year. Despite the fact TZ has recorded just one win to this point,
the girls are still together, they hold their heads up, there is no finger pointing or name calling. Please don’t get the idea that after these losses, the girls skip off happily into the sunset, they don’t. Frankly, winning is a lot of things, including fun. But the lessons learned when losing should not be overlooked. Having fluid goals, being supportive and just showing up sometimes are all things that will serve these girls well down the road. Thanks and well done Coach Swart…
Skippy,
“the lessons learned when losing should not be overlooked”.
Many good life lessons come from participating in sports, along with the building of one’s character. One team will win and one will lose but it is how you win or lose that defines you.
hey, don’t go feeling bad for TZ now, save it for the teams that need it.
Anyone can have a rough year, they have been good for so long now, they will be fine, they have what? 1 senior and 4 freshman?
They will be on top again in no time.
