Breaking News

Suffern suffered their first lost of the season at the hands of Moorestown (NJ) 15-8. The game was supposed to be at Suffern but the game got switched earlier in the week so Suffern agreed to travel to Moorestown. Moorestown is now 12-1 and after speaking with Suffern Head coach John Callanan he told me they were ranked some where around 30th in the country. With that said there’s definitely no shame in the loss. He also said that the Mounties had a few mental lapses and everytime they tried to make a run Moorestown would extend the lead. He gave a lot of credit to Moorestown and he and the team seemed to be in good spirits.

I’ve always though an early loss for a really talented team is more of a good thing than a bad thing. It wakes them up and lets them know that they can be beat. When you’re rolling it’s easy to not get up for every game or look past opponents. I think Suffern will be respond nicely to the loss and continue their dominance in Section 1.

suffern didn’t need a wake up call, justin. if i remember correctly, they just barely squeaked by lakeland and ytown, both by 14-13 scores. those kids did not need to play moorestown to know that they can get beat if they let their guard down. i still commend them for going out of section yet again to play a quality opponent…but i don’t think they needed it as a wake up call.

    On Vacation,

I didn’t state specifically that Suffern needed a wake up call. I was speaking in general terms. I said that sometimes an early or mid-season loss can be a good thing for a team. I’m aware of their opponents and the scores and I know that they are very well coached. Just speaking from my own experience as a player that sometimes when you’re rolling a bump in the road can be a wake up call and a good thing.

Suffern, or any other team who wants to improve, need only go down to Long Island, or invite some LI teams up, for some great competition. Garden City, Farmingdale, Northport, Shoreham-Wading River, Massapequa, West Babylon, Rocky Point, Manhasset, St. Anthony’s are all top teams, all within 45-90 minutes away, and I’m sure each would welcome a non-league game, even a scrimmage. If you want the chance to improve your LaxPower rating, seek a stronger strength of schedule.
