Nanuet takes control of I-B

April
18

Nanuet just became the frontrunner in League I-B, disposing of Mamaroneck 13-6 to go up by 1.5 games over the Tigers and Scarsdale. Kelly Fanshawe had four goals and three assists, Hannah Frey scored four goals and Lauren Kahn had three goals and two assists for the Golden Knights. Margaret Souther scored four second-half goals for the Raiders in a 12-9 win over Edgemont. Also in the league, Erin Cummings had three goals and three assists as Nyack beat Tappan Zee 17-6. TZ has really struggled this year, and the schedule doesn’t get any easier.

Maybe the Dutchies should take a page from the North Rockland playbook. In the oddest matchup I’ve seen so far this season (not close geographically, not close in school size), League I-A North Rockland played League III-B Irvington. Can someone explain that to me? Needless to say, it was 11-0 at the half.

As for the other I-A teams, the top three all won. Suffern beat Greeley 17-9 and Lakeland/Panas beat John Jay 16-7. Mahopac hung with Yorktown, but the Cornhuskers won 12-9 (Jaimie Morrison did play).

Rounding up the rest of Thursday: Sarah Hogan had five goals and three assists as Brewster beat Clarkstown North 13-10. … Lindsay Toppe had four goals and one assist as Fox Lane beat Clarkstown South 15-8. … Jenna Libson had three goals and three assists as Ardsley topped Hen Hud 11-8. … Maggie Ryan had four goals and five assists as Holy Child defeated Greens Farms 19-9. … And Liz Garry scored three goals but Rye Country Day fell to Convent of the Sacred Heart 15-6.

To the Brewster Coaches a little reminder The New York State Public High School Athletic Association requires officials to enforce all sportmanship rules for athletes and coaches. Officials should not tolerate negative statements or actions between opposing players, especially trash-talking , taunting or baiting of opponents. If such comments are heard or actions seen, apenalty will be asseessed immediately. The actions of a player on The Brewster team was a disgrace and the coaches should be held responable for her actions. Let the girls play not harrass ,opposing player the game was filmed and I believe the league and Section should do something about such behavior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So just because a brewster player does a FANTASTIC job of faceguarding WITHOUT “trash-talking , taunting or baiting” it is considered bad sportsmanship? its part of the game ive seen it done at the college level. Its too bad that the ref’s at the game didnt have the same rule book to read out of that you did. I think it is an excellent idea to have the section review the tape. Hopefully the girl that came off the field at half time and deliberately tripped the 7th grade brewster player is caught on that tape as well. Remember theres 2 sides to every story.

By the way, most of the trashtalking came from the Clarkstown girl being faceguarded. Its a well known defensive tactic that obviously works.

holy crap! this is almost as good as the girls basketball blog.

Harold, its your friend Howie, from hockey, see these blogs are almost as cut throat as the chuckles I get from reading, see Clarkstown North couldn’t even beat “pathetic Sleepy/Irvington”, that does wonders for our self-esteem.

Anyway I coach the JV girls at Tappan Zee something i have been doing for the past 5 years. I got the Irvington JV girls to play us twice, needless to say they have a lot of spirit, but they are a few years away from competing. I tried to get a varsity game as well, but the scheduling just couldn’t be worked out. Unlike hockey there is a huge difference between the top and bottom leagues in girls lax. Kudos to my kids at Irvington for playing NR, I’m glad to see my buddy Borchers at NR doing the right thing, it probably could have been 100-0.

Hopefully our Varsity here at TZ will get its first win tommorrow against Albertus. It should be close our JV’s only beat them by 4 or 5 last year.
