Power rankings

April
17

Here’s the first try on the power rankings. Before I start, let me just say that I have absolutely no idea where to rank Hackley and Rye Country Day. I have not seen them play, and they have no opponents in common with anyone on the list, so I have no point of reference. Can someone here help me out?

The first four I thought were easy. The next six could go anywhere from 5-10, and even though North Rockland is 1-3 they’ve faced as tough a schedule as anyone so they could easily be in the mix too.

1. Suffern (6-0): No brainer. Just handed Darien and Yorktown their first losses.
2. Yorktown (4-1): All five games have been close. Shockingly, the most lopsided win was against Lakeland/Panas.
3. Lakeland/Panas (4-2): Can’t wait for Suffern game. In the meantime, vote in the poll on the right to see which team you think will win Class A this year.
4. Nanuet (5-1): Sure they’re in League I-B, but they already beat John Jay 13-6.
5. Mahopac (3-3): This is where it gets tough for me. Intriguing game against Yorktown today.
t6. Horace Greeley (2-2-1) and John Jay (2-3-1): They just played to a tie, so it’s fitting that they share the sixth spot here.
t8. Hackley (4-1) and Rye Country Day (3-1): Can anyone tell me who’s better? They play on May 13, but I don’t want to wait until then.
10. Mamaroneck (4-1-1): Already had four games decided by one goal or less.

OK, so now’s it your turn. Who deserves to be higher? Lower? In or out completely? Let me know what you think.

you’re right…it is way too early to be anywhere close to accurate, but here are some observations:

take RCD off the list. they aren’t close to top 10.

put north rock on the list. don’t know where they belong on the list, but they are absolutely top 10.

move nanuet down to the second 5. they may move up later but their comp hasn’t been good enough to be in the top 5 yet.

ytown vs. mama may not be as good a matchup as you predict. jamie morrison got yellow carded twice in the suffern game so i don’t think she can play today. game may not be a good barometer if she’s not in the lineup.

    sorry…meant ytown vs mahopac.

    Rule 7 – Penalty Administration

Section 29-31 – In an effort to clarify the section on cards a number of changes have been made to the wording in these sections. Two yellow cards to any player will signify that she is to be removed from participation in that game, and the reference to a red card has been removed. A red card will now be indicative of a flagrant foul or misconduct that calls for immediate removal from the game. Changes will also be made in Rule 8 – Definition of Terms to reflect this rewording.

thanks, ronnie. does this mean that a person who draws two yellows in game #1 can still play in game #2?

Ronnie – a bit more info for you to add:
If a player draws two yellow cards and is not charged by the ref with “unsportsmanship like behavior” there is no second game penlty. Jamie Morrison can and should play in the next game. When a ref makes note in the offical record book that the 2nd yellow was due to unsportsmanlike behavior, the player must sit for the next game and as many games thereafter that the AD of the school dictates. NYSPHAAS office high school rules.

    My letters are wrong…sorry.

NYSPHSAA = NYS Public High School Athletic Assoc.

Nanuet beat John Jay and came within two of Yorktown.

Hey alllax – thats for the info. Your posts are always very helpful. You must be a big fan of girls lacrosse. Any predictions on who makes the finals for class A and B ? Who has surprised you so far this season?

My predictions: in class A – Lakeland over Suffern in overtime and in class B – Yorktown over HG 14 – 10.

Both Lakeland and Yorktown go to the state semi-finals. From there anything can happen.

    My predictions:
Suffern over Lakeland. Although I am sure that L/P is getting their act together, Suffern returns this year with confidence in their strong returning line-up. L/P has good individuals, very good. But can they pull together and play team ball? Suffern 9-7.
Yorktown is my favorite in B. Talent, chemistry & coaching. They will need to play each game to the whistle and make each possession count. Young, talented and hungry.
Lots of loss from both L/P and Ytown. I think that we will see Yorktown at States this year.
