I mentioned that Suffern stayed in Class A by two students. Here’s the full BEDS numbers for every school, which Section 1 uses to determine size. It’s the number of students in Grades 9-11. So if the Mounties have more seniors than incoming freshman, I would expect them to drop to Class B next year. Anyone know?
Class A
Arlington 2596
New Rochelle 2449
North Rockland 2108
White Plains 1669
Lakeland/Panas 1616 (Lakeland 947 + Panas 669)
Mahopac 1352
Clarkstown North 1173
Suffern 1135
Class B
Scarsdale 1093
Mamaroneck 1079
Clarkstown South 1061
Yorktown 1043
Greeley 1033
Fox Lane 995
Ossining 989
John Jay 979
Ursuline 978
Brewster 897
Tappan Zee 777
Class C
Nyack 744
Harrison 726
Somers 714
Hen Hud 698
Sleepy Hollow 623
Pearl River 618
Byram Hills 618
Pelham 581
Ardsley 570
Rye 570
Nanuet 527
Kennedy 510
Edgemont 495
Briarcliff 493
Putnam Valley 475
Irvington 453
Pleasantville 441
Hastings 433
Bronxville 355
Albertus 344
North Salem 336
Keio 240
So here’s some questions: How does New Rochelle have a team and not Mount Vernon (2065)? And Mahopac has a team but not Carmel (1202)? Arlington but not JJEF (1643) or Ketcham (1506)? Bronxville but not Eastchester (659)?

thanks for doing this, harold. as for suffern, they will win class A this season and they have a great built-in program generating fine players year after year. it would be a shame to have them drop to B.
A possible answer to your question as to why some of the bigger schools don’t have teams, my guess is that much as everything else in our society, it comes down to money.
Lack of interest, lack of funding, compounded by the fact that the schools you mentioned have a bigger participation for other sports that are in the same season, such as track and softball. I think that those are probably the reasons in part for no teams from those schools.
harold, any early chatter with regards to the early favorites this season. Who’s been recruited already? Any coaching changes? Just really getting excited for the 2008 womens lax season.
pass the ball,
I’m excited also. Unfortunately we’re still focused on winter sports this weekend with state track, wrestling and basketball, but we’ll be moving on to spring sports in a few days. Fortunately the season doesn’t start until April 1 so we’ll have plenty of time.

All the rain today makes me wonder. Does the first lacrosse practice day (3/10/08) depend on the end of winter sports? Spring sports are especially hard hit by weather (rain or snow.) When you add to that 2 vacation weeks, 1 for Easter and another in April, and it seems like we’re set up to have trouble sweezing games in, and a scramble at the end of the season. Who decides when practices start?
And why does L/P get to combine their schools? I’ve never understood that logic. They are each large enough to stand on their own, like everyone else has to.

The Replacements on Lax to the max
Monday, March 17th, 2008 at 9:17 pm by jgold.
This is Jeff Gold. I’ve been getting going on the lacrosse preview and it’s interesting to hear the coaches talk about who they have coming back and who they need to replace and the challenges it poses. 1 has its attack back, but lost the bulk of its middies. 2 shouldn’t have trouble scoring, but needs to find three new starters on defense. Which position is the toughest to break in new starters? Entering a year, would you rather have experienced defenders, middies or attack? Which position group is the easiest to replace and which is the toughest? Tell us your thoughts. Class alignments are set

• top underclassmen

Rosters and schedules are up
Today marked our unofficial start of the season I guess you can say.
Just moments ago, we “went live†with spring sports rosters and schedules on Varsity Central.
Here’s the link for girls lacrosse on Varsity Central.

Now obviously there aren’t any game results up, but what you will find are team rosters and team schedules. I should add a caveat. The team rosters are all those that have been submitted to us. If your team’s roster is not there, that means your coach did not send it to us yet. That’s also the case when you don’t see a result of a game during the season. (It means it wasn’t reported to us by the coach of the home team if it’s a Setion 1 game or the coach of the Section 1 team if it’s against a non-section opponent home or away.)
I should point out that in some cases, rosters may not be there because they have not yet been finalized. All schedules are complete however — or they should be. If you see any incomplete schedule info, please post a comment here.
